Meniscal transplant an alternative to knee replacement for young individuals
Meniscal transplant
Young individuals with deficient cartilages of the knee ( menisci) are at risk of developing arthritis soon. This can be avoided by undergoing a meniscal transplant. As shown here, a meniscus is harvested from a cadaver and can be stored. It can be then transplanted into the knee of a meniscal deficient individual by open or arthroscopic surgery. This procedure is now available in India as an alternative to knee replacement in young individuals. Off course the ligaments of the knee should also be intact and there should be no bow leg deformities.

I have had reconsctructive surgeries on both knees, and removal of loose bodies on the left knee. I have had continuing problems with the left knee with arthritis and loss of meniscus. Currently I am experiencing pain in the left knee on the outside and when going up stairs. My last consult a year a half ago said the only option was a replacement. I am very interested in the meniscus replacement and would like to know more about the proceedure and cost of the proceedure, I have a 4500$ deductible. Thank you. Jim Annes
