Canadian citizen undergoes Oxinium knee replacement in India
Canadian’s value medical travel for Knee replacement
A Canadian footballer Mr. Gerald Dempsey from Newfoundland traveled to Indian surgeon Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam for his special Oxinium Journey knee replacement.
He is very happy to get a quick fire surgical solution within a month of inquiry.
His surgery was performed at the Madras Joint replacement center’s associated hospital by orthopedic surgeon Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam of international repute. Mr. Dempsey was forced into pre mature retirement when the paper mill that he worked for in New found land closed down suddenly.
Mr. Gerald had developed knee arthritis after football injuries and cartilage removal in Canada. He had sought medical attention from his provincial orthopedic surgeons. He was told that he needed a Knee replacement and that too with the Oxinium knee in view of his relatively young age. He was put on a waiting list for a knee replacement in the National Health Service but didn’t like his poor quality of life. When he failed to get a timely doctor’s appointment, he sought surgery abroad. There is no private treatment in Canada. Hence he took recourse to the internet to find medical treatment abroad. Dr. Venkatachalam’s name surfaced on the top for orthopedic surgeons doing the Oxinium Journey knee replacement abroad.
Mr. Dempsey, a man of modest means had never traveled outside Canada before. He was naturally very nervous. Dr.Venkatachalam suggested a suitable airline and helped with getting a visa. He boarded a flight from his home town in Canada to the south Indian city of Chennai. The flight was long but comfortable.
He was accorded a warm reception at the airport which helped in overcoming his nervousness. The hospitality and treatment provided was of a very high quality.
He underwent an Oxinium Journey knee replacement in his right knee. He is now recovering well and will be returning to his home town soon.
He is very pleased with the small scar, painless recovery, and knee bending achieved immediately after the surgery. His greatest satisfaction is to regain his quality of life at a very affordable cost.
He is going to spread the good news on returning to Canada.

Knee replacement recovery- British patient's progress @ 3 months.
Dear Dr.Venkatachalam
Good to hear from you. I’m an impatient person so progress will never seem fast enough for me! However my osteopath tells me she is amazed at my progress and sees me as far ahead of what she has come to expect with all the others she has worked with. I am walking well, and stamina is improving, but still has a long way to go. My wife says that I was walking like an old man in January and early feb., but now I don’t look like one. I am much better at climbing up stairs and am improving at climbing down them, and take most opportunities so to do. I’m up to about 135 degrees of bend, or slightly more, and I think both legs have evened out now.
Today I have been to the Gymn again (Mon, Wed, & Fri), and during the various journeys to and from (and then back to London Bridge for other reasons) have climbed down all the stairs into Canada Water station twice (i.e. 2 x 33 steps), and back up them again, up and down one flight of moving escalator, and then various stairs and steps elsewhere. Down is still more of a problem, and causes pain on the front outside of the knee, below the level of the knee-cap, in both legs but worse in the right. This persists for some time in walking after finishing the steps but goes eventually.
My osteopath says that the muscle you identified ( I still can’t remember the name – VMO – VOM ?)is now very well bulked up and has said to stop using the electro stimulation on it. She is very impressed with the difference that the stimulation has made in conjunction with gymn exercise.

Cartilage surgery can save athlete's joints
There is good news for sports-persons with cartilage injuries in India. At a conference held in Hyderabad, experts including Dr.Venkatachalam of KneeIndia.com discussed the potential of stem cells in bone and joint problems.
One such problem is cartilage injuries of the knee joint. The Knee joint is often injured in sportsmen or even in normal individuals. Ligament and cartilage injuries often occur concomitantly. Although Ligament reconstruction like arthroscopic ACL reconstruction could rectify damaged ligaments, cartilage injuries were left untreated till now.
Reparative cartilage surgery procedures like micro fracture are used by surgeons in low demand patients to repair these lesions by an inferior substitute called fibro cartilage.
Now surgeons like Dr.Venkatachalam in association with "Regenerative medicine services" a company based in India offer restorative cartilage surgery procedure called 'Chondron'
This procedure consists of two operations. During the first, the surgeon will harvest a small piece of cartilage through key hole surgery from the knee. He will then send it to the laboratory for tissue culture. The tissue regenerates 12 to 48 million cartilage cells in about 4 to 6 weeks. These cells are implanted in a scaffold medium into the cartilage defect in your own joint.
Over the next four to six weeks you will be asked to remain non weight bearing and given physiotherapy. The defect is restored to normal tissue during this period.
Progression of the defect to Osteo arthritis or joint failure is thus averted. You could return to sports or normal life.
